Jackie Chan


 

Jackie Chan is a well-known martial artist. 


Chan Kong-Sang used to be his real name. 





Why did he changed it?


In his early twenties, Chan worked as a building and restaurant worker in Australia. One of his coworkers at the construction site reportedly couldn't pronounce Kong-sang and began calling him "little Jack." This was quickly changed to Jackie, and the name remained.


Jamie Foxx

Eric Marlon Bishop is his real name.





 

Why did he change it? Foxx started his career as a stand-up comedian, but despite his abilities, he was rarely given the stage time he needed. He found that female comics were always called first to perform at open mic nights, so he chose Jamie as his first name, which is vague and gender neutral.



Meanwhile, the name Foxx was a nod to one of his favorite actors, Redd Foxx, who often used it as a stage name. John Elroy Sandford is an actor best known for his appearance in the 1970s sitcom Sanford and Son.


Michael Caine

Why did he change his name? Caine wanted to get rid of his "ridiculous" moniker, which audiences seemed to enjoy. In his autobiography The Elephant To Hollywood, he clarified that he sat on a bench in the middle of Leicester Square one day and “looked around at all the cinemas” after deciding to change it.

His real name is Nicolas Kim Coppola.




Why did he change it? Francis Ford Coppola, the producer of The Godfather, wanted to forge his own direction away from his uncle.




 

“I had to reinvent myself,” he said in a 2014 interview with The Talks. Legally, I'm still Nicolas Coppola, but I'm also Nicolas Cage. I adore my family for all of their successes, but as a young actor, I couldn't get that off my mind when I went into casting offices. I had to concentrate on the role and the audition, and I was under pressure due to my name. I was like, "I can really do this," as soon as I went into the casting office under a new name and they didn't realize there was a link and I got the role. I was ecstatic. It allowed me to be whoever or whatever I wanted to be in my dreams.


James Garner.

For a bonus, let's talk a little about the 6th person, James Garner of blessed memory. His real name was James Scott Bumgarner.


Why did he change it? It's understandable that using the word "bum" in your name presents some difficulties. Warner Bros. Studios, on the other hand, sparked the change by naming him Garner in Toward The Unknown without consulting him first.





The Rockford Files star didn't seem to mind, and he later legally dropped the 'Bum'. [May his soul rest in perfect peace.]
